AREA 940 UFO PUBLIC ART PROJECT

This was the first large public art commission that Umut Demirgüç Thurman and I collaborated on. We are both fans of science fiction and were excited to build this ten-foot diameter stainless steel flying saucer for the City of Denton as part of its 31 Days of Halloween celebration. It features vacuum-formed panels backlit with color-changing LEDs along with some cryptic writing (in Aurebesh for you super sci-fi nerds out there…). Too large to fit in our studio (or even our garage!), we built it in our driveway and the City transported it to its installation location.
