In 2024, Umut Demirgüç Thurman and I co-founded the Denton Maker Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit art organization, in order to create a space to help support Denton’s creative maker community. Umut works with a growing group of instructors to offer more than ten different workshops and seminars every month along with a variety of different types of events. A team of more than twenty volunteers help keep Denton open to the community more than fifty hours a week. The DMC Shop (both online and at DMC) sells artworks and kits produced by local makers. Through increasing support, the Denton Maker Center continues to grow and thrive, contributing to the larger vibrant arts community of Denton!
