Creativity Bridge

“Makey the Maker” came into existence during a zine-making workshop I took at the Denton Maker Center in April 2025. Orion Fern is a Denton artist who is very passionate about zines and regular teaches workshops and zine-related events at DMC. I have never considered myself particularly good at cartooning but Orion created an environment that was so supportive and encouraging, it made it a fun and inspiring experience. As a child, a tremendously huge inspiration was the drawing books of Ed Emberley. I found them so empowering since they broke down complex drawings into manageable steps (like LEGO for drawing). My approach to Makey came from Emberley's Fingerprint book. I’m sure that Makey will be making more appearances in the future…
