This ongoing collaborative project with The Glass Furnace (Istanbul, Turkey) was begun as part of an Artist Residency during the summer of 2014. The pieces shown here are various explorations of hot glass blown into different types of metal forms I made. Ultimately, the goal is to explore the possibilities of glass and metal in all the different glass studios of The Glass Furnace (Hot Glass, Lampworking, Fusing/Slumping, and Casting) by utilizing the Metalworking & Enameling studio there. I continued this work by collaborating with Aaron Tate, glassblower in Denton, Texas.
In 2025, Aaron and I were able to resume working on our Glass+Metal series together. We focused on smaller-scale pieces because I was to take one of them to the 2025 Denizli Glass Biennial in Türkiye. Overall, we are both very pleased with the results. Some of them did not survive the annealing process—the contact point of the copper and glass continues to be a technical challenge. We are excited to continue this collaboration, both by co-teaching future workshops and making more pieces together.
