As part of my Suite series, this piece combines woodturning, metal spinning, miniature painting, and jewelry-making. I am increasingly concerned about humanity’s effects on the natural environment, especially the oceans (since the impact is often unseen or at such a large scale it is difficult to comprehend).  The lathe-turned lid of the vessel, which also serves as a wearable ring, is made from Jules Verne’s novel, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The lathe-turned ripples emphasize the effects and repercussions of humanity’s actions. The base plate is comprised of alternating Thurmanite rings made from maps and index of an atlas, laser engraved with ancient depictions of sea monsters, held by fold-formed copper “tentacles.”
